This journal seeks to advance knowledge regarding the formulation and execution of faith-based national security policies as well as provide those who will govern, direct, educate, lead and inspire defense and security forces with resources to integrate their faith into their professional judgments, decisions and actions.
This journal aims to influence for good the faith basis of morally responsible leadership in regard to preparing for war, going to war, fighting wars, concluding wars, evaluating wars, and maintaining discipline and accountability among parties involved in planning, projecting or applying military force. It will examine national defense decisions, policies, and strategies as well as the leadership of military and security forces.
JFW accepts articles that address historical and contemporary situations that political and military leaders at all levels in our nations’ defense structures have confronted—or are confronting—in their decisions and relationships. Its focus on ethical leadership will include the development of leadership doctrine, teaching that doctrine in formal educational systems, and its practice at all levels.
ACCT’s goal in publishing this journal is to create an archive of some of the best thought that is available on its stated purpose and to make it available, free, to as many individuals, institutions and other organizations as possible. Since their founding was largely based upon the ideas of people who were profoundly influenced by Judaism and Christianity, it is to be expected that most of the content of the journal will be authored by persons who embrace or agree with faith-based spiritual, ethical, and moral values.
The Scope and Focus of the Journal are suggested by its title:
- Our understanding of God, human nature, and the history of warfare
- Evaluations of national and collective defense and security policies and strategies
- Ethical leadership in the conduct of military and security force operations
Major Topics will include the following:
- God, Man and War: How ones understanding of the nature of God, of man, and of the history of armed conflict provides enduring principles that should guide political, military, and security force leaders today
- National Security Policy–The application of these principles to current national security policies and the use of military and security forces in the 21st century
- Leadership Education & Practice–The application of ethical convictions and values in the task of developing moral character in leaders and those who follow them, including such themes as the following: Developing leadership doctrine, Teaching leadership in educational systems, Practicing ethical leadership in one’s military or security service—including challenges faced in training or “peacetime” operations, operations in hostile areas, and in combat situations, and mentoring and encouraging other military and security force leader
General-interest features will include the following:
- Essays, monographs, and research reports that address topics in addition to those identified above
- Reviews of books, articles, blogsites, movies, and other forms of communication relevant and significant to the purpose of the journal
- Editorials and commentaries by the editor and others
- News about JFW and other relevant topics
- Selected feedback from readers
